Just before dawn, the she-cat awoke in her nest in the warriors den of SkyClan. It wasn't unusual for this she-cat to be awake early and it also wasn't unusual for this she-cat to be the only one awake. Carefully standing and picking her way delicately around her clan-mates the she-cat made her way outside of the den, an padded into the camp clearing.
Just inside the warrior's den she could hear the quiet mewling of kits, and with a purr she wondered if Tinykit was giving her mother trouble. That small kit was so cute, and between her and her siblings SkyClan was always busy. Above her, the sky changed hues casting purples, blues, yellows and oranges across the clearing.
As the clearing lightened with the welcome sunlight, the she-cat began to hear the birds singing their songs. These 'birdsongs' were how Birdsong actually gained her warrior name. Upon her naming, Northstar had given her the suffix, 'song' to honor the birds who fed SkyClan and her soft voice. Birdsong had never been the most outspoken warrior in SkyClan, but the other warriors respected her for her compassion and wisdom.
Picking her way across the clearing, she stopped at the fresh-kill pile and found herself sniffing around. There were a few robins and black-birds and a mouse. Choosing the mouse, mostly because she didn't feel like picking feathers out of her teeth, the she-cat padded over to the camp entrance and began eating. I wonder when someone else will wake up...

Bright blue eyes slowly blinked open as a shadow was cast above him. He looked around, and saw that both of his sisters and his mother were still fast asleep. It did not take long before the little kit grew tired of waiting for someone to wake up. He wondered if anyone else was awake yet, then again he wasn’t able to tell if anyone was outside the nursery. The kit couldn’t even tell if anyone was inside the nursery unless he was looking around. But the kit was beginning to get braver, and the little kit was still in his ‘prove to mommy and sisters that he was a normal kit’ attitude. He was sick of his mother giving him ‘those’ looks, the ones that were full of sympathy and it was as if he was almost helpless. Hailkit was far from helpless, he could get around on his own just fine, despite not knowing what was going on half the time.
His curious paws began to pad outside the nursery, careful not to wake his mother or sisters. This was new for the little kit. He normally was not found outside the nursery and when he was, he usually was told to stick by his mother’s side. He was a little over two moons old now and he saw his sisters go outside all the time. Mommy let them go, but why did she keep him by her? It was all too hard for this young kit to understand. But now that he was free, a huge grin was plastered on his face. He didn’t know what to do. Maybe the reason mommy never let him out of her watch was because he was different than his sisters. He knew that something was up at first, but now he is beginning to think something is wrong with him. Does mommy not like him as much as his sisters? Does she not trust him as much as them?
Maybe that is also the reason that mommy talks with the medicine cat a lot. Could she be asking why he is so different? This was so much to take in, and Hailkit was growing tired of all this thinking. The kit’s eyes soon were found wandering again. He spotted something….what was it? Hailkit let out a little mewl and he instantly began to pad toward what he had spotted. Right before he could pounce on it, it went high up in the sky! He remembered mommy had told him about those creatures before. They were called butterflies. Frowning, Hailkit began to paw at the sky, thinking maybe that would get it to come back to him.

While munching down into her mouse, the she-cat heard a mewl near the nursery. Looking up she saw Hailkit, the deaf kit of SkyClan. Watching him with warm green eyes, she let out a purr as he pawed at a butterfly. With just a small hunk of meat left on her mouse, she stood with it in her mouth and padded over to the kit.
She sat down paitently awaiting the kit to realize that she was sitting there, she sat the piece of mouse down. She had brought it to offer it to the kit, and sat it down with a warm blink of her eyes. Poor thing, he must feel out of place with his family. I know his mother hardly lets him out of her sight, which means he probably snuck out and Dawnflower was asleep.

The kit continued to frown at the sky and do everything he could to get the butterfly back. He managed a small mewl, thinking that would help. But no…it did nothing that was even slightly helpful. His little white tail was lashing out in anger. Why did everything he try and play with go away?
Hailkit was about to turn around and head back to the nursery when he caught sight of someone staring at him. How long had that cat been sitting there watching him? Tilting his head to the side, he curiously took a step closer. He couldn’t remember this cat at all, then again that wasn’t rare. It would be rare for him to identify another cat that wasn’t the medicine cat, his mother, or his sisters.
His eyes soon found the piece of prey that she had brought. He blinked at it and watched it curiously. Just exactly what was going on? Looking up at the warrior he had a grin on his face and padded closer. He knew he didn’t have to be scared, it was a warrior of SkyClan after all. He was SkyClan blood, so why would anyone try to scare him? Hailkit sat down just in front of the warrior and began to purr. Maybe he found a new friend to play with! His sisters would be so jealous! ”Hailkit.”
[/color] he mewed slowly, swinging his tail around to point it to himself. It wasn’t that often that he spoke, just because it was difficult. But the least he could do was introduce himself to the she-cat, having some manners. Even if he couldn’t quite talk in a complete sentence, he knew his name.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
