The young apprentice had slept restlessly the night before- which wasn't unusual with the beating of rain against the apprentice's den. Her nest happened to be under a small area that leaked so she woke up with a wet flank and in a horrid mood.
I wonder what Ripplestream has me doing today. Maybe he'll help me fix our den at some point, or maybe we'll hunt. She didn't really care- anything but cleaning the elders den. She was sick and tired of cleaning old moss, and then being told that one of the elders has a tick. Being an apprentice sucked.
No Splashpaw wasn't always in this foul of a mood, it was just the stinking rain. She actually loved the rain, but not when it leaked on her when she slept. Standing, and padding out of her den she gingerly shook her pelt before padding towards the camp entrance- looking for Ripplestream.

Unlike his (clearly) grumpy apprentice, Ripplestream loved the rain. He practically thrived in it. It was apparent to everyone who ever saw him on patrol while it was raining that his heart lightened considerably. No one knew why he felt this way during a rainy day, including himself, but everyone was thankful for it.
When Ripplestream woke that day to find the sky blotted out with dark clouds and fat rain drops descending from the sky, his heart leaped in his chest and a big smile overtook his muzzle. The deputy spotted his apprentice heading towards the entrance and bounded toward her with a grin. "You aren't trying to run away from me now, are you?" he asked with a good-natured frown.

Lashing her tail irritability, Splashpaw turned her eyes on her mentor. 'You aren't trying to run away from me now are you?' He'd asked. Suppressing an internal snort, the young apprentice replied, "Well if you'd assigned someone to fix our den, or let me fix it- maybe I wouldn't be trying to run from you."
Jerking away from her mentor she padded a few steps then turned with a sigh, "Sorry, Ripplestream. It's just this stupid rain." Tilting her head, she glanced up towards the sky where the dismal grey clouds contiued to spew droplets of rain.
Can this day get any worse?

At first, Ripplestream blinked in surprise. He didn't know the apprentice den was leaking again. Then he chuckled in amusement, his green eyes gleaming. "You have the nest in the back of the den, don't you?" he asked with a smirk. Then he shook his head. "That part of the den leaked even when I was an apprentice. We've been trying to fix it for ages, but whatever we use just keeps falling off."
He flicked his tail to motion her to follow him and started towards the rear of the den. "Come on then, grumpy-paws. We'll do what we can to at least temporarily stop it, until the rain stops." He found the hole in the roof of the den and looked at Splashpaw. "Well, what do you think? Give me an idea on what we can use to plug the hole."

Turning to her mentor she thought for a moment before speaking, "How about we take moss, reeds, and maybe some briars from the wooded area of the territory. Weave in the briars and reeds and pack it with moss?" She had heard that ThunderClan dends were made of briars and ferns, and reeds were kind of like RiverClan ferns.
"We could get the briars first, and get the reeds from the other side of camp and the moss as well. It can't be that hard to fix." She thought aloud.

Ripplestream thought about it. Had they ever tried that solution before? He remembered using reeds once, but that had been long ago. He eventually nodded. "We used reeds when I was an apprentice too. Briars have never occurred to me before, though. Good thinking Splashpaw!"
He turned back to the den and rose up on his hind paws to look at the spot that needed repairs. In his mind, he weaved the reeds and briars together to find the best combination. Ripplestream found a combination he was happy with and sat back down, looking at Splashpaw. "You go find the briars and moss, I'll get the reeds."

Flicking her tail, her grumpy mood evaporating slightly, the she-cat mewed, "Of course! I'll be back soon" Turning away from her mentor, she bounded out of the camp- carefully pushing past the other warriors and raced along the river towards the forest area of the territory.
Once there the she-cat carefully extracted some briars, and picked them up in her mouth, carefully maneuvering them back towards the camp. What seemed like a thousand pawsteps later, her teeth ached and she sat them at the camp entrance, just out of the way so no unsuspecting warrior would stumble into them.
Turning from there she bounded off to find moss, and gently stripped some with her claws and rolled it into paws. Bounding back towards camp she squirmed her bundle inside. Once there she dragged it over to the apprentice den and looked around for Ripplestream. It was just after sunhigh and he probably had just eaten some lunch, now where was he?

Beside the apprentice den was a pile of reeds. It had the smell of Ripplestream, but the deputy was no where in sight. At least until he came into camp dripping wet. It wasn't that much out of place, considering the rain made everyone dripping wet, but the was the only one that was beaming.
He spotted Splashpaw, who was seemingly waiting for him, and trotted over with a grin. "Wow, that was quick! I thought I could go for a swim in the river and get back before you." Ripplestream shook his pelt out, ridding himself of the excess water from the river, and grinned at his apprentice. "Set the stuff down next to the reeds. We'll break for lunch, then get back to it."

Looking around the camp, she could see the queens milling about with the kits under their feet. Stifling a purr of amusement, the she-cat turned her head just in time to see Ripplestream padd into the camp, dripping wet. Just a tad wetter than everyone else, if that was even possible. 'Wow, that was quick! I thought I could go for a swim in the river and get back before you.' He started to speak as he then shook spewing more water all over the young apprentice. Stepping back with a cross flick of her tail, she blinked when he began to speak again.
'Set the stuff down next to the reeds. We'll break for lunch, then get back to it.' He said. With a flick of her white tipped tail. Stepping ahead of her mentor, she shook her tri-colored brown pelt gently and padded away from him with a flick of her tail. The apprentice turned her eyes on the fresh-kill pile and saw with a groan that it was empty. Obviously none of the hunting patrols had returned yet.
Turning back towards Ripplestream, she mewed, "Well it looks like that we are catching lunch. Up for a swim in the river for a fish, she asked with a purr." Not waiting for an answer, she flicked her tail across his nose and bounded off towards the river- and didn't hesitate to plunge into it.
Diving under it, she dove for a carp who was milling with it's school towards the bottom of the river. Clasping it in her jaws she paddled strongly up towards the bank and spat the carp onto the bank. Scrambling out after it, she killed it neatly and turned to look for Ripplestream. The taste of the carp, as she had bitten into it filled her mouth, causing her to almost drool from hunger, but the fish was massive and she knew she wouldn't be able to eat it by herself. Picking it up she gingerly padded back towards the camp, with the weight of the fish unbalancing her.
I'm going to fall on my face. She thought miserably, Where is Ripplestream?
